QUEENS — Things got a bit nutty at the US Open this week when a tiny gray squirrel interrupted a match at the tennis championship.

A video posted to YouTube caught the meddlesome rodent scurrying around the court at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Monday as competitors Sabine Lisicki and Vera Dushevina tried to get a rally going.

"Wait please. We have a squirrel," said the match's announcer as the animal scurried about the court for nearly a minute.

Lisicki could hardly contain her amusement during the incident, grinning widely throughout most of the video.

The squirrel eventually disappeared behind a clock — which inspired applause from the audience — and the match resumed.

Lisicki went on to win the match.

The squirrel's appearance was first reported by Gothamist on Thursday.

Tournament officials did not immediately return calls for comment.
