JACKSON HEIGHTS — A popular Thai restaurant is opening an outpost in a vacant restaurant just up the street, according to the restaurant owner and workers.

The owners of Arunee Thai are renovating the storefront on 37th Avenue between 79th and 80th Streets, steps away from the restaurant’s current location on 79th Street.

The 37th Avenue location had been empty since Latin restaurant Novo closed earlier this year.

The construction work includes replacing the storefront and installing additional kitchen equipment, according to a Department of Buildings permit.

It is not clear if the owners will shutter the current location when it opens in the larger building up the street.

Arunee Thai has been praised for it’s “authentic” and “consistent” Thai cuisine, and Zagat gave it a 22 in terms of food and a 20 for service.
