INWOOD — Police took the streets of Inwood Tuesday to search for answers about a 22-year-old unsolved murder where a child was found stuffed inside a cooler.
In an annual ritual, police from the 34th Precinct and the NYPD Crime Stoppers unit were on the corner of Dyckman Street and Seaman Avenue Monday to distribute fliers about "Baby Hope," whose 1991 discovery near the Henry Hudson Parkway prompted an investigation that continues to this day.
"Baby Hope," an unidentified girl between the ages of 3-5, was found stuffed inside of a blue cooler hidden in a wooded area just off the Henry Hudson Parkway and Dyckman Street on Tues., July 23, 1991. Police determined that the child had been beaten, starved, sexually abused and suffocated.
The circumstances of the child's death were never determined, and police have never even discovered her name.
Since then, cops have taken to the streets every year to hand out fliers on the anniversary of the child's discovery, police sources told DNAinfo New York.
