RED HOOK — A taste of Court Street is heading to Red Hook.

Sullivan Street foodies can rejoice as Court Street Grocers, a café and food store at 485 Court St., bring their specialty sandwiches to a new “Hero Shop” in Red Hook.

The new shop, located at 116 Sullivan St., opened Wednesday and will be serving their breakfast and lunch sandwiches with a unique menu for the Red Hook eatery.

While the Court Street shop has become famous for their own sandwiches, served on a Caputo’s seeded club roll, the Sullivan street location will serve sandwiches, like “The Ollie,” roast turkey breast, provolone cheese, broccoli rabe, Sriracha honey and mayonnaise and “The Yasha,” oil packed tuna, goddess dressing, herbs and pickled lemon.

But Court Street Grocers won’t be leaving behind their famous Italian Combo, which was featured in New York Magazine and described as “rich and meaty and as carefully layered as a Farrah Fawcett hairdo.”

While the Court Street food shop signed the lease for the Red Hook space last year, Hurricane Sandy completely damaged the restaurant and kitchen, said co-owner Matt Ross.

“We lost everything that was there,” said Ross, adding that the storm left more than five-feet of flooding.

The Sullivan Street shop, the Grocers’ second location, will also act as the new “commissary kitchen,” where both shop’s sandwiches will be created, he said.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Ross.

Hero Shop, at 116 Sullivan St., is open from Wednesday to Sunday and will serve their breakfast sandwiches from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and lunch sandwiches from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
