FORT GEORGE — The popular Harlem cupcake bakery Tonnie's Minis will be opening a new location further uptown later this summer, store officials confirmed.

The bakery, which New York Magazine said "turns out some of the cutest cupcakes east of Magnolia Bakery," will set up shop at 4734 Broadway near Thayer Street, on the border of Inwood and Washington Heights.

"Our new location in Inwood is scheduled to be opening in August if they're aren't any delays," a spokeswoman for bakery owner Tonnie Rozier said in an email.

Rozier, a former citywide recreation director for the New York City Housing Authority, sparked a sugar buzz in Harlem when she moved Tonnie's Minis from the West Village to its current location at 264 Malcolm X Blvd. in 2010. At the Harlem location, customers can get cupcakes made-to-order and with special-toppings, from chocolate icing with oreos to gummy bears.

Tonnie's Minis also recently expanded its empire into The Bronx — opening a location at 1700 Southern Blvd. on Tuesday.

The impending cupcake arrival to Inwood was first revealed by a blog post by Besen Retail, which manages the space that Tonnie's Minis will be taking over.
