FLATIRON — A two-story 7-Eleven recently opened on Fifth Avenue featuring a Slurpee station, tables and seating for guests to target the office lunchtime crowd, officials for the chain said.
The two-story superstore opened its doors at 182 Fifth Ave. for the first time on April 26, said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris.
“[It’s] larger than most of our Manhattan sites,” she explained. “We…have more room than typically for the coffee and beverage areas.”
The first floor, which includes a sprawling coffee and Slurpee station, spans about 2,700 square feet, with the mezzanine floor made up of 900 square feet featuring seven tables with chairs.
Despite the size, the store's offerings remain the same with hot dogs, pizza and empanadas, as well as a section for prepackaged cold sandwiches to take out.
The space was formerly home to Deli Marche, which had been closed down by the Department of Health at least once for health code violations.
Another 7-Eleven opened a few blocks north at 224 Fifth Ave. about a year ago.
“Much of our focus will be on food service and the lunch-time crowd,” Chabris added.
The Flatiron location is one of the latest 7-Elevens to open in Manhattan, as the chain plans to bring 100 to the borough in the coming years.
Outposts have popped up everywhere from Greenwich Village to the Financial District in recent months, with some anti-7-Eleven advocates lashing out against the chain's spread.
