NEW YORK CITY — The FDNY rescued a woman from the East River on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The fire department responded to a call of a person in the East River near East 42nd Street and FDR Drive at 1:40 p.m., officials said.

Rescue crews retrieved the woman, who was not identified, and transported her to Bellevue Hospital, officials said. Her condition was not immediately known, and it was not clear how she wound up in the water, police said.
