NEW YORK CITY — Cancellations and delays ran into a second day Wednesday after a Long Island Rail Road train derailed late Monday night near the Forest Hills station, according to the MTA.
Peak time trains on nearly every line were cancelled again Wednesday morning, the MTA said. The authority said 11 trains were scrapped, five were diverted from Penn Station to Atlantic Avenue and four more were to terminate early in Jamaica.
For Wednesday's evening commute, seven peak trains were cancelled and one was set to terminate early in Jamaica, the MTA said.
All disrupted lines were to be served by other trains, but the MTA warned passengers to expect extra travel time and to check its website for updates.
The delays are expected to extend into Friday March 22 as crews work to repair the nearly 4,000 feet of track that was damaged when four cars of a non-passenger train derailed in Queens about 9 p.m. Monday, an MTA official said.
No one was injured in the accident.
The derailed train cars were placed back onto the tracks Tuesday and removed to repair shops, allowing crews to mend and replace damaged track and other equipment, the MTA said.
For a full list of lines affected, check the MTA's website.
