Two Men Arrested in Strangling of Queens Middle School Teacher

By Ben Fractenberg | March 20, 2013 7:27pm

EAST ELMHURST — Police arrested a 20-year-old man in the choking death of Queens middle school teacher David Rangel.

Rangel, 53, was found stuffed under his couch inside his East Elmhurst home on Jan. 27, police said. Responders pronounced him dead at the 91st Street apartment.

Nearly two months later, police have arrested Cecil Golden and Elijah Agyepong of The Bronx and charged them with first-degree murder, police said.

Golden was additionally charged with posession of stolen property, cops said.

Rangel taught ESL and Spanish to seventh and eighth-graders at M.S. Paul Klapper school in Flushing.

“He was a very smart teacher," 7-year-old Denali Rivera, who had Rangel as a substitute teacher, told the Daily News. "He never got mad.”

The motive behind the killing was not immediately clear.
