CARROLL GARDENS — Going once, going twice, sold for a good cause.
Size 38 Christian Louboutins, a trip to Cape Cod, a night at the Standard Hotel and tickets to "The Colbert Report" are just a few of the goodies to be auctioned.
“We’re strengthening P.S. 58 and throwing a fun party,” said Rob Hansen, P.S. 58’s fundraising coordinator, who expects about 300 people to attend the auction on March 16 at the Bell House.
There will also be items from “families and parents who will donate their time and skills,” said Hansen, like an Indian dinner for eight by a P.S. 58 mom.
More than 120 donated items will be up for grabs, including tickets to a New York Jets game, backstage passes to Broadway shows and a 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue signed by cover model Kate Upton. There will also be gift certificates to stores like Shelsky’s Smoked Fish and Bird, a clothing shop on Smith Street.
The evening will also feature cocktails, music and hors-d’oeuvres from local eateries Avlee, Stinky Brooklyn, Court Street Grocers and Marco Polo Ristorante.
Funds collected from the annual event — the first live auction the school is organizing — will pay for programs in student enrichment, improving classroom instruction, paying for school supplies and improving the overall school environment, Hansen said.
The school’s PTA provides funding for areas that aren’t always covered within the school budget, he said. In the past, they’ve organized lice inspection programs and planned educational recess periods for the school’s 940 students.
Funding has also been used for classroom activities organized by teachers, such as a vegetable garden for elementary school students, he added.
Last month, the school organized a fried chicken fundraiser in partnership with Seersucker on Smith Street to benefit the veggie patch.
“There are lots of ways to try and bring education alive,” Hansen said.
