Co-Ed Soccer League Heads to Brooklyn Bridge Park

BROOKLYN — A co-ed soccer league is moving to Brooklyn Bridge Park this spring, bringing 14 teams to the park for the first time.

Beginning in March, the teams play on Thursdays from 7.30 p.m., to 10.30 p.m.

The cost to each team is about $1,400.

While spots quickly filled up for the spring league, there’s plenty of room for summer play with registrations beginning at the end of March.

The NYC Soccer league began in 2008 on Meetup, a social networking group that where users can organize offline gatherings, that grew into the site’s largest pick-up soccer league, according to the NYC Soccer website. Last year, they began their spring league.

“It’s good football, but fun,” said league founder, Dale Choonoolal.

NYC Soccer also hosts leagues in other neighborhoods across the city like Williamsburg, Long Island City and Lower East Side.

But soccer isn’t the only draw for this league. They also organize networking and social events after the games, which are played at an intermediate level and last for about 54 minutes.

The league also plays one-day charity tournaments benefiting disadvantaged youth, said Choonoolal. The next one is scheduled for June 2, with 24 teams sets to play.

It’s all about fun and footie “on and off the field,” he said.
