KIPS BAY — An unidentified woman was struck by a taxi cab and killed on East 27th Street and Third Avenue early Sunday after the cab was sent spinning by a vehicle backing out of a parking spot, police said.

Police found the victim, whose identity had not yet been released pending family notification, lying at the scene with severe leg trauma at 1:48 a.m. after she was hit by a 2011 Ford Escape yellow cab whose driver stayed on the scene, police said.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Investigators discovered that the woman was hit when a 2010 Honda sedan, which was pulling out of a parking space along Third Avenue, inadvertently pulled into the rear of the taxi cab that was headed northbound on the avenue, police said.

The force of the impact caused the driver to lose control, and sent the taxi spinning towards the sidewalk where the victim was standing, police said.

No criminality was suspected, and police continued to investigate, the NYPD said.
