SILVER LAKE — The Staten Island woman who went missing during a solo vacation to Turkey was found dead over the weekend, the Associated Press reported.
Sarai Sierra, 33, of Silver Lake, was missing since Jan. 21 when she failed to board a return flight home from Turkey. Turkish police found the body of Sierra near ancient city walls in a low-income district of Istanbul. She'd suffered a fatal blow to the head, the AP reported.
On Jan. 7, Sierra, a mother of two, went on a trip to Turkey to pursue her photography hobby. She also took side trips to Munich and Amsterdam, the AP said.
She originally planned to go with a friend, but decided to go on the trip alone when her friend couldn't make it.
Police questioned more than a dozen people in the case, but most have been released.
Sierra's relatives said she was in constant contact throughout her trip, and last told them she was going to the Galata Bridge to take photographs as her last stop on her trip.
Her two children, 9 and 11, still don't know what happened to their mother, the AP said.
