NEW YORK CITY — It's going to be a white weekend.
The city could see anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of snow by Saturday night, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service. The white stuff is expected to start falling after 9 a.m. Saturday and last throughout the day.
"We do have enough cold air for snow in the New York City area," said Dan Hofmann, a NWS meterologist. The exact amounts depend on the strength of a low-pressure system heading into the Northeast region, Hofmann noted.
The weather is spurred by a wave of low pressure moving up from the southeast into the Mid-Atlantic, Hofmann added.
The snow is expected to end by about 1 a.m. Sunday and will most likely melt as temperatures are expected to rise to 39 degrees Sunday, forecasters said.
