NEW YORK CITY — A heavy post-Christmas snow storm heading toward the city could threaten the travel plans of those visiting for the holidays, according to forecasters.
The weather is expected to be mostly cloudy until around 1 p.m. Wednesday, when temperatures in the high 30s combined with a mixture of rain and snow are expected to hit the city, which could last through the night, according to Accuweather.
The National Weather Service has issued high wind and coastal flood advisories for all five boroughs.
Wednesday's storm could pose additional problems in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Trees and branches left standing after Sandy may be vulnerable to falling during the coming storm, according to a release from Con Edison.
Work crews from Con Edison will be on call in case of damage to electrical wires from downed trees, according to the release. The utility provider is urging New Yorkers to stay indoors during the storm away from trees and power lines, to make sure flashlights and battery-operated radios are working and to make sure all appliances are unplugged if the power goes out, to prevent surging once it is restored.
