EAST NEW YORK — A 41-year-old man lost his hand in an industrial accident at a metal factory on Belmont Avenue, an FDNY official said Thursday.

The man was operating a machine within Belmont Metals Inc., at 330 Belmont Ave., Wednesday when about 6:30 p.m. it severed his hand, a fire spokesman said.

The unidentified man was taken to Montefiore Medical Center, officials said. The injury did not appear to be life-threatening, officials and co-workers said.

“Yeah, he’s okay,” said the president of Belmont Metals.

He declined to elaborate on the circumstances.
