What's Open and What's Closed in Wake of Hurricane Sandy

By Irene Plagianos | October 31, 2012 12:50pm

NEW YORK CITY — In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the city’s busy calendar of entertainment and events has, not surprisingly, also taken a hit.

As the city trudges it's way back to normalcy, here's a roundup of how some of the major entertainment and cultural venues have been affected.

• The Brooklyn Nets' big debut versus the Knicks at the Barclays Center, orginally slated for Thursday, is now postponed. A new date hasn't been scheduled yet.

• The Smashing Pumpkins show, scheduled for Wednesday at the Barclays Center, has also been postponed till a yet-unannounced date.

• Most Broadway shows are now up and running, with the exception of Disney productions — so no "Lion King" or "Mary Poppins" yet.

• For the first time, ever, the Village Halloween Parade has been canceled. It’s not yet clear when or if the parade will be rescheduled.

• Good news for runners: The ING New York City Marathon is still on for this Sunday.

• Many museums were slowly opening their doors Wednesday.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is open from noon to 5:30 p.m., with free admission Wednesday.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is open until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with regular admission.

The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park will remain closed Wednesday, with regular hours resuming tomorrow. Check metmuseum.org for updates.

The lower east side's New Museum also remains closed, until "conditions approve" according the museums websites.

• Because of continued power outages, many downtown music venues remain shuttered — BrooklynVegan.com has a good rundown of shows and Halloween events that are still going on tonight, as well as those that are canceled.
