EAST VILLAGE — Two people were hurt when a lamppost fell on them in the East Village Monday afternoon, as Hurricane Sandy battered the city, officials said.

The two victims were struck by the streetlight about 3:35 p.m. along the FDR Drive just north of East Houston Street, the FDNY said.

They were taken to Bellevue Hospital, one with serious but not life-threatening injuries and one with minor injuries, the FDNY said.

It was not immediately clear if the victims were pedestrians or motorists.
