Man Struck and Killed by City Sanitation Truck on East 84th Street

UPPER EAST SIDE — A 31-year-old man was struck and killed by a city sanitation truck on East 84th Street early Monday, according to the NYPD.

Andrew Schoonover, of Neptune Beach, Fla., was trying to cross the street at East 84th Street when the truck, traveling south on Second Avenue, plowed into him about 1:20 a.m., police said.

Schoonover was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The truck’s driver remained on the scene following the accident, police said. He was not immediately charged or issued any summonses, police said.
