JACKSON HEIGHTS — The horse dance has galloped into Queens.
A flash mob organized by the group Bengali Memes descended on Jackson Heights' 37th Road Plaza last week to perform the uber-popular song "Gangnam Style" by South Korean pop star Psy.
The video, called "Lungi Style," after the South Asian article of clothing, features a growing number of dancers performing a choreographed routine to the song. The dance group Habibi Express helped choreograph the dance, according to their Facebook page.
Shot on Columbus Day, the video shows the group grow from one dancer, to three, to eventually more than a dozen, as onlookers laugh and dance along, and take photos.
Finally, a group of around 10 young men leave the larger group, only to return a short time later, wearing lungis and shouting along to the song, "Oppan lungi style!"
"The main purpose of this event was to bring together the Bengali community, more specifically the Bengali teens of New York City," the video's description reads, "and just have fun together through this Gangnam Style dance and flashmob."
Uploaded Oct. 12, the video had close to 10,000 views on Wednesday.
"I live in Jackson Heights. I walk on that very spot twice a day. And yet I somehow missed that," said viewer Gamemonkey5. "I hate my life."
"I actually like this better than the official video," added viewer Kay C.
