JAMAICA — A woman was struck and killed by a car driven by her elderly boyfriend on Jamaica Avenue Sunday night, police said.

Mary Gater, 60, was standing at 147-13 Jamaica Ave., near Sutphin Boulevard, at 11:40 p.m. when an out-of-control silver 2006 Chrysler 300 jumped the curb and careened onto the sidewalk, the NYPD said.

The car hit Gater. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in traumatic arrest and died a short time later, an NYPD spokesman said.

Gater’s family said the driver was her 85-year-old partner, who was picking her up from work at a Brooklyn nursing home, Wartburg Lutheran on Jamaica Avenue.

The driver, who has not been named, remained on scene and was not suspected of any crime.

Tracy Gater, the victim’s 35-year-old daughter, said her mother's boyfriend was a "very nice" man and the two rarely fought.

"They're both very caring," she said in front of her mother’s Linden Boulevard home.

"She worked very hard for her children — a very caring mom."

A neighbor said Gater was polite and mostly kept to herself.

“I saw her boyfriend sometimes,” the neighbor, who declined to give a name, said. “He’s a very nice and respectful person.”
