Harvest in the Square Returns with Food from More Than 50 Restaurants

UNION SQUARE — Union Square will be filled with delectable food from more than 50 neighborhood restaurants on Thursday night for the 17th annual Harvest in the Square tasting event.

Organizers anticipate a packed park for the event, with about 1,200 guests expected to nosh on cuisine from some of the area’s most reputable eateries and enjoy libations from more than 40 wineries and breweries.

The Union Square Partnership, which organizes the event to raise funds for the beautification and maintenance of Union Square Park, said this year’s food-and-wine fest is building on the success of years past.

“We’ve got over 50 restaurants, including several new ones,” said the Partnership's executive director, Jennifer Falk, noting that Alison Eighteen, Vic & Anthony’s, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese and Ngam have joined the mix.

In addition, Falk said she expects the amount raised from the event to exceed last year’s fundraising totals, which topped out at $330,000. And she added that the Partnership is on track to sell out of tickets before the day of the event.

“It is the original food and wine tasting event,” Falk said. “So I think that there’s a lot of loyalty and love for this treasured annual event.”

Restaurant newcomers to the event will join Harvest in the Square regulars, such as Gramercy Tavern, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Café and Blue Water Grill.

The Finger Lakes Wine Alliance will bring its selection of fall Rieslings, and the Nashville Attitude, a band out of Staten Island, will infuse the evening with energetic country music.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m., with VIP access available as early as 6 p.m. General admission tickets cost $125 in advance or $150 at the door. VIP tickets cost $400. Tickets can be purchased at www.Harvest.UnionSquareNYC.org.
