Hailee Steinfeld, Fran Drescher and Katharine McPhee Hit Fashion Week

By Lisa Marsh | September 11, 2012 11:09am

LINCOLN CENTER — Simply hosting Oscar nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld at your runway show will not guarantee she’ll buy your clothes — you should be wooing her parents.

The 15-year-old "True Grit" star is attending New York Fashion Week for the first time this week and admitted she's hungry for couture.

“I'm about to walk this line,” she said, gesturing to designer Chris Benz’s collection, “and I'm going to want everything. You get inspired."

Though Steinfeld did not admit to receiving an allowance from her parents, she still needs to get their approval.

“I am not the best shopper, so I don't buy a lot," the actress said, "but when I do see something I want, it does take some ‘pretty please-ing.'"

Also at Benz’s presentation on the promenade at Avery Fisher Hall were Susan Sarandon, George Kotsiopolous, Kelly Osbourne, Joan and Melissa Rivers, and Paula Abdul.

Monday was one for the ages, so to speak. The day started with a Norisol Ferrari show featuring models Carmen Del’Orefice, Carol Alt, Karen Bjornsen and Alva Chinn — all runway icons from the 1970s, '80s and earlier. Then, at the Marimekko show later in the day, Pat Cleveland joined Alt and Dell'Orefice to round out the roster of classic catwalk stars.

Fran Drescher has recently been making the rounds in a big way. She was at the Democratic National Convention, where she “opened the women's cacaus," went to the Toronto Film Festival for the premiere of her animated film “Hotel Transylvania” with Adam Sandler, and touched down in New York in time for the Reem Acra show on Monday. On Thursday, she plans to jet to Arkansas, “because I've been invited to speak at the Clinton Library.” Phew!

Drescher chalks up all that vigor to her eating habits. “I'm vegan right now and not drinking, and it makes a huge difference. I'm also gluten free,” she shared. “I'm on a very restrictive diet, but I feel great,” making it easier to shop for clothes. “I like something that shows off my curves and my 'cleav,' but still has a classic look."

For many, one of the perks of Fashion Week is the free swag. And like editors, some celebrities cross over to the other side to get their hands on the gratis goods. “Glee” star Katharine McPhee swung by the BirchBox gifting lounge and made herself a gift box containing hair products, makeup and some Beauty Blender sponges, which she said she "loved."
