U.S. Open Ref Accused of Murdering Her Husband 'Snapped,' Says Detective

MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — The 70-year-old U.S. Open referee charged with bludgeoning her husband of nearly five decades to death with a coffee mug and then stabbing him with the shards in their Southern California home just “snapped,” said an LAPD detective Thursday.

“We don’t believe there was any premeditation,” said Det. David Peteque before taking Lois Ann “Lolo” Goodman into custody in Manhattan Criminal Court.

“You’ve seen that [television] show ‘Snapped’,” asked Peteque. “She snapped.”

Goodman, in town from Los Angeles to officiate at the Open, was arrested Tuesday at a Midtown Sheraton Hotel and charged in Manhattan Criminal Court with murdering her 80-year-old husband, Alan Goodman, and being a fugitive from justice.

Police said she had bashed his skull with a coffee mug that eventually broke — then stabbed him with the sharp edges.

Sources familiar with the case told DNAinfo.com that when cops arrived at the scene, the line judge, who’s reffed games for Andre Agassi and other tennis luminaries, chatted on about her career—and didn’t seem too concerned with her dead husband.

L.A. authorities said they had been investigating the murder since April 17, when Goodman called 911 claiming she’d found her husband dead in their home. She told police she thought he may have fallen and hit his head, or perhaps suffered a heart attack.

“There was quite a bit of blood recovered at the scene,” Peteque said.

According to published reports, cops found large blood stains throughout the home.

The couple, who have three children, have been married for nearly 50 years.

Goodman, who waived her right to fight extradition to California, requested through her attorney that she be allowed to return to her home state as soon as possible to fight the charges — even though California uses the death penalty.

Reporters swarmed Goodman as she left Manhattan Criminal Court Thursday in cuffs, and still clad in her official blue U.S. open uniform.

Peteque said he, Goodman and other LAPD officers will fly back to Los Angeles tonight.

She's scheduled to be arrainged on first degree murder charges on Monday.
