Maryland Crabfest Returns to Chelsea

By Mathew Katz | August 15, 2012 7:27pm

CHELSEA — An all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink crabfest returns to Chelsea this year after an incredibly successful first year in New York.

The three-day Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast kicks off on Sept. 7 in the Tunnel at The Terminal Stores, 269 11th Ave.

Organizers said they're expecting greater demand this year, with some seatings already filling up. Tickets are cheaper this time around: they'll run you $89 for a crab-a-palooza, down from $118 last year.

The second annual crabfest will bring tens of thousands of Old Bay-covered blue crabs from Chesapeake Bay to seafood-loving New Yorkers. Hammers — for shell-cracking — are included in the ticket price, as is all-you-can-drink beer from Abita Brewing Company and wine, along with New Orleans Root Beer for the under-21 crowd.

Since people can't live on crab alone, Utz will provide a wide array of snacks, along with a selection of specialty pickles from Ricks Picks.

A portion of proceeds from the fest will go to support for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, which seeks to keep the crab-producing bay free of damage and pollution.

The Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast runs four seatings between Sept. 7 and Sept 9. Tickets are available on the event's website.
