MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT—A grand jury indicted the well-dressed man accused of brutally attacking a Spanish tourist in City Hall Park with a hammer earlier this week, prosecutors said Friday.
John Yoos, 43, repeatedly bashed tourist Hugo Alejandre, 31, with the claw side of the hammer as the unsuspecting victim and his girlfriend ate lunch on a park bench Monday afternoon, prosecutors said.
Yoos was arraigned Tuesday on second degree attempted murder, as well as assault and criminal weapons possession.
According to court documents, Yoos admitted to bashing Alejandre with the hammer numerous times. Prosecutors say Yoos suddenly pulled out a hammer without provocation continued to beat Alejandre "over and over again" as the victim fell to the ground.
He allegedly called Alejandre a "Nazi motherf---er" and screamed epithets about Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and Nazis, as he viciously beat him, according to published reports.
Good Samaritans were eventually able to wrestle Yoos to the ground, holding him down until he was hauled away by cops.
Yoos is being held without bail.
