BROWNSVILLE — Two teen suspects were arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that left a 2-year-old girl and five others wounded earlier this week, police said.
Lawand Tinsley, 19, was arrested Friday, and charged with six counts of attempted murder, six counts of assault and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the July 29 shooting, which injured toddler Ariyanna Prince, her father, Michael Prince, 25, and four other victims, including two teenagers.
Michael Jones, also 19, was arrested Saturday, and faces the same charges.
Police took Tinsley into custody for questioning on Friday morning.
"This individual has implicated himself," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said at a news conference at Police Headquarters, before the teen was formally arrested.
Kelly did not reveal how detectives found Tinsley.
The drive-by shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. when bullets sprayed from a white Volkswagen Jetta driving past a crowd of people hanging out at Riverdale Avenue and Chester Street.
All of the victims survived.
The intended target appeared to be one of the teenagers, Andrew Void, 17, who was involved in a turf war with a rival gang, sources said.
The investigation is ongoing, but Kelly said Friday he expects others to be brought in to answer questions about the shooting.
"We anticipate certainly at least one arrest and perhaps more in the near future," Kelly said.
The break in the case came a day after the NYPD and the mayor's officer announced a $22,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects.
