Food Truck Fest Rolls Into South Street Seaport Saturday

By Julie Shapiro | August 2, 2012 4:33pm

SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — Get ready to get stuffed.

The PARKED! food truck festival is returning to the South Street Seaport on Saturday, with more than 30 trucks selling everything from gourmet grilled cheese to artisanal ice cream.

Street food favorites including Mexicue, Taim Mobile, Frites 'N' Meats and Schnitzel & Things will all be on hand to dish out their savory specialties. Diners will be able to cool their palates with treats from Wafels & Dinges, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Sweetery NYC and more.

The festival will also feature a "Restaurant Row" with another 20 food vendors that don't have trucks, including Mighty Balls meatballs and Melt Bakery ice cream sandwiches.

When festival-goers get thirsty, they can visit the outdoor beer and champagne gardens, which will offer grownup beverages throughout the day.

For entertainment, a stage on Pier 17 will host musical acts including John Hammond, The Juggs, The Loom and Johnnie Lee Jordan & The Boys. Magicians, face painters and stilt walkers will also wander the crowd, and there will be live food demonstrations.

PARKED! started in 2008 with just five food trucks but grew quickly as a mobile food craze hit New York. The festival drew more than 20,000 people to the South Street Seaport last year, organizers said.

Admission to the event is free, but a limited number of VIP passes, which cost $50 to $65, will allow ticket-holders to skip the lines, grab a drink and taste food from 10 different trucks. The VIP passes are available online and are good from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.

PARKED!, at the South Street Seaport, Fulton and South streets, will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 4.
