On the Horizon

Café Taj at 73-04 37th Ave., Jackson Heights

There is never a dearth of Indian restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood and later this month, Café Taj will join the Indian food scene, bringing a Chinese and halal twist.

The new restaurant, which will be managed by the same folks that run the Taj grocery store two storefronts away, expects to open in time for the Muslim celebration of Eid next month — the day that marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan, management said.

On the menu is halal Indo-Chinese food, said Café Taj’s manager Tepu Kigria, which includes a selection of fried rice, spicy noodles and chicken dishes.

While the store is still working on getting all its permits in place, management said they were hopeful to be up and running by the end of August.

Bangladesh Farmacia

A new pharmacy is scheduled to open this Friday on 37th Avenue, between 76th and 77th streets.

Bangladesh Farmacia will stock a range of medicines including vaccines, oncology drugs and medication for dialysis, management said. It will also have a pharmacist on hand to fill out prescriptions and will stock drug store staples like toiletries and beauty aids.

The pharmacy is located on a stretch that doesn’t have any other drug store for at least five blocks, which the management hopes to use to their benefit.

Mehfil's spot, however, will be reclaimed by another Indian restaurant, Paradise Biryani Pointe. It's not clear when the new eatery will open, the sign outside the store indicates there will be a selection of biryanis to choose from.
