MANHATTAN — Sleeves are so last season.
Men's tank tops have moved past the traditional undershirt and into high-fashion territory this summer, as heat waves continue to scorch the city.
With varying colors, designs and prices to match every taste — not to mention the leisure of a loose fit — tank tops are popping up everywhere, from the street to the nightclub.
"It's a casual and elegant look," said Moritz Garlich, 25, noting he often wears tank tops under his suit jacket as a semi-formal outfit, and has spent up to $100 on a single tank.
While others restrict their purchases to less than $50, several said they had noticed the style becoming more common in New York.
Sammy Gilmete said he would spend $20 to $30 on a tank top that he can wear everywhere.
"You can use them as classy lounge wear," he said.
