Bras the New Style Accessory on City Streets

By DNAinfo Staff on July 16, 2012 7:58am

MANHATTAN — It's underwear no more.

The trend of exposing bright-colored bras through sheer blouses and backless tank-tops is catching on in the Big Apple.

On a recent visit to the Meatpacking District, Annie Gauntlett, 25, wore a black tank-top through which her white lace bra was visible.

"It's summer and people want to show more skin," Gauntlett explained of her fashion choice.

Malorie Polk, 22, an intern at high-end clothing store Alice + Olivia, said that while the style is definitely emerging, she sees many women wearing it wrong.

Isabel Addonizo, 25, wearing a sheer-backed blouse. She said that in Italy, where she is from, the style is very common.

"It's not just about exposing your Victoria's Secret or your Bloomingdale's," said Polk, who suggests that women should invest in a tube top or strapless bra to make the style work best.
