MANHATTAN — For those lucky enough to stay in a hotel with a private rooftop pool, these swanky recluses provide ample opportunity for some quality rest and relaxation away from the crowds on city streets.

In the trendy Meatpacking District, the rooftop pool at the Hotel Gansevoort on Ninth Avenue features views of the Hudson River and the rising Freedom Tower to the south — as well as plenty of hot bodies catching rays. The pool, while only 4-feet, 10-inches deep, provides ample space for sunbathing, enjoying a cocktail or a simple snooze.

The Empire Hotel on West 63rd Street is flanked by Lincoln Center to the west, Central Park to the east, and Columbus Circle to the south. The hotel's rooftop pool, while small, offers no end of fascinating views — and the bar on the lower deck doesn't hurt.

On the Lower East Side, the Thompson LES Hotel offers less on the lounging and inspiring views, but is not short on swimming space, fancy cocktails or beautiful people to mingle with.

But don't expect to saunter into one of these tony swimming enclaves fresh off the street, because a hotel stay is required to gain access.

But given the summer's scorching heat, it may just be worth it.
