NEW YORK CITY — Tens of thousands of revelers flocked to Manhattan's West Side Wednesday evening to take in Macy's 35th annual Fourth of July Fireworks show on the Hudson River.

The event featured performances by pop star Katy Perry and country rocker Kenny Chesney, followed by a 25-minute fireworks display — one of the largest in the nation.

"This day always makes me very proud," said Queens resident Emil Lomo, 38, a construction worker who moved here from Mexico. "I came to America 35 years ago, and this country has taken care of me. I feel very happy today and will enjoy this wonderful day for a long time."

Temperatures climbed as high as 91 degrees Wednesday, but that didn't deter the crowds, which appeared to be as large as ever.

"It's a great day for New York," said Bronx resident Larry Schmidt, 68. "It's a day for all Americans to celebrate our independence from the British — and boy is it hot."
