EAST VILLAGE — The Insider found itself alone at more than a few showings during the weekend's sweltering heat and more than a little thankful for the AC at 347 East Fifth St. #3A, which is clearly home to a young family.

While they may have been out on the baking asphalt of the city's streets, it was nice to get a look at the 1,350-square-foot, three-bedroom unit in air-conditioned solitude.

The CitiHabitats broker gave us a guided tour, starting in the well-proportioned kitchen/dining area, with plenty of light streaming in from a sliding screen door and windows looking out onto the 100-square-foot outdoor space. While The Insider peered outside onto the patio, he declined to venture back out into the heat, a decision supported by the broker.

"We haven’t had a lot of takers on actually stepping out there today," she said with a smile. "But everyone seems to like the idea of it anyway."

A long hallway that connects the rest of the unit from the kitchen/dining area also hosts two well-sized storage closets and a little office nook sitting behind a sliding door.

At the end of the hall is a master bedroom that looks out onto First Avenue, a smaller bedroom that looks down on Fifth Street and a living space overlooking the corner of both.

The long hallway gives the sense of being in two separate apartments — a unique feeling in cramped quarters often found in the East Village.

"It is a very rare kind of place," the broker said, allowing us to take our time gawking in the space's cool confines.

But the family was due to return to their air-conditioned privacy, so off we went into the sweaty afternoon.
