MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — Accused 'Millionaire Madam' Anna Gristina and her alleged accomplice Jaynie Mae Baker are teaming up battle their promoting prostitution case.
Gristina and Baker have been charged with a single felony count of promoting prostitution. Baker had been released on $100,000 bail weeks ago, while Gristina was only allowed to leave Rikers this week after more then 4 months in jail and a long fight to reduce her bail.
Baker, 30, who appeared in court Friday for a pretrial hearing, sat quietly during the proceeding and left the court, accompanied by her sister, Jessica, without speaking to reporters.
Gristina, 44 and Baker, 30, are both set to appear in court on Aug. 16, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan said Friday.
After the appearance, Baker's lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, told reporters that the August date — when Merchan will rule on motions to dismiss filed by each woman's legal camps and set a joint trial date — will be the first time they've seen each other since the arrest for running a high-end prostitution ring.
Gottlieb said the women won't blame each other — but instead fight the charges as a pair.
Gristina allegedly ran the brothel on East 78th Street with Baker, a matchmaking service recruiter from Brooklyn. Gristina, a mother of four, allegedly made millions over the course of 15 years through a network of wealthy clients.
