CROWN HEIGHTS — A man with a box cutter allegedly raped a woman on a Crown Heights rooftop early Monday, police said.
The attack happened atop a roof on Bergen Street, near Albany Avenue, about 2 a.m., police said.
The woman was waiting for a cab when the man allegedly threatened her with the box cutter, took her to the roof of the building and assaulted her, cops said.
Her attacker then fled, they said.
The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said. An investigation is ongoing, according to the NYPD.
A witness who lives in the neighborhood said he saw a man rush into the building where the alleged attack took place about the same time as the incident. He then saw the victim emerge from the building about a half-hour later.
"She was standing there smoking a cigarette," said T.J., who's lived in the neighborhood the last 15 years. "The guy looked like he got out of a cab. He ran in the building."
He added that the woman said, "I should have said something" after coming out of the building, and that others called 911.
"It's very shocking," T.J. said. "People were outside."
Another woman who lives in the building said the door to the roof is always unlocked.
"The door is always open. We complain," said Cyone Thomas, 50. "Sometimes it's fixed for a few days."
