MANHATTAN — A person was stabbed in Union Square Monday afternoon, sparking a desperate search for a suspect who fled the scene, officials said.

A 911 call reporting a male stabbed near East 14th Street and Union Square East came through just after 2:30 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Police said the victim was stabbed in the face.

Paramedics rushed the victim, who has not been identified, to a nearby hospital. An FDNY spokesman said the transport was to Bellevue Hospital, while police said the victim was taken to Beth Israel Medical Center.

There was no immediate information on the person's condition.

Police said they were looking for a suspect — an overweight man in his 30s — who fled east on 14th Street.

No one has been arrested.
