CROWN HEIGHTS — A 49-year-old Williamsburg man was struck and killed by a drunk driver early Sunday morning, according to police.

William Boney, 49, was crossing the intersection of Atlantic Avenue at Troy Avenue at 12:34 a.m., heading from the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood south, into Crown Heights, police said.

According to police, Boney was struck by a black 2004 Lincoln Navigator that was driven by a man police identified as Carmelo Galloway, 39, headed eastbound on Atlantic Avenue.

Boney was found to be in severe trauma at the scene, and was transported to Kings County Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said that Galloway remained at the scene, and was arrested as part of an investigation, which is ongoing. Galloway, who is from Crown Heights, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, according to police.

According to a 2011 item in a police blotter, it appeared Galloway may have had other run-ins with the law. The NYPD could not immediately confirm that he had a prior record of arrests in New York City.

Galloway had been arrested for trespassing at a Lord & Taylor store in Lawrence Township, N.J., May 24, 2011, the article reported, after guards recognized him as a repeat shoplifter. He was removed for trespassing, and barred from all stores, the article stated.
