BROOKLYN — The second suspect in the wild shootout in a Crown Heights shoe store that left a 12-year-old boy and another innocent bystander wounded has turned himself in, police said.
Gerald Spears, 23, surrended to cops Tuesday night for his alleged role in a gun battle with a security worker at Rugged Sole at 298 Utica Ave., police said.
The gunplay wounded a 12-year-old boy — whose father courageously tried to shield him from the bullets — as well as a 34-year-old teacher, Christopher Townsend.
Both victims were treated at Kings County Hospital and released a short time later.
The drama unfolded about 7:30 p.m. Monday when Rugged Sole security guard Kenneth Meeks, 45, of Brownsville, allegedly tossed Spears out after accusing him of loitering in the shoe store, police said.
Spears returned a short time later with a gun and started shooting at Meeks, who pulled out his own 9mm handgun and returned fire, police said.
Meeks, 45, was arrested a short time later and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Spears was being interviewed at the 71st Precinct stationhouse Wednesday morning and has not been formally charged, police said.
