NEW YORK CITY — The Knicks' tumultuous season came to a close Wednesday with a Game 5 loss to the Miami Heat in their opening-round playoff series, punctuating one of the more memorable seasons in franchise history.

After a season that included "Linsanity," a mid-season coaching change and the emergence of a rookie who could be a vital piece of the team moving forward, the Knicks bowed out of the playoffs, 106-94, after managing to eke out only one victory over Miami in their series.

“I’m proud of my teammates,” Knicks center Tyson Chandler told reporters after the game. “But at the end of the day, it wasn’t good enough.”

The Knicks were led by Carmelo Anthony, who scored a game-high 35 points but couldn't contend with Heat stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, who combined for 67 points.

“Next year, we’ll be better,” Anthony vowed after the game. “We’ll be much better as a unit. Not just me and Amar’e [Stoudemire], but as a team, as a group, we’ll be much better.”

The Heat move on to play the Indiana Pacers in Round 2.

The Knicks will have to decide this off-season whether to retain interim coach Mike Woodson, who replaced Mike D'Antoni after the team parted ways with him midway through season.

Woodson declined to comment on his future with the team following the game.

Anthony and Stoudemire both said they would like to see Woodson patrolling the Madison Square Garden sidelines next year.

"Coach Woodson has obviously done a phenomenal job since he's been here so it's really not my decision, but I support every coach that comes that coaches me," Stoudemire told reporters. "So I'm going to show Mike the same support."
