MANHATTAN — Two of New York City’s most acclaimed chefs received high honors at the coveted James Beard Foundation Awards on Monday night.

Michael Anthony, the executive chef and partner at the Danny Meyer-owned Gramercy Tavern, was honored as the best chef in New York City.

And Daniel Humm, the executive chef and co-owner of Eleven Madison Park and the recently opened NoMad restaurant, was named outstanding chef — a category defined as "a working chef in America whose career has set national industry standards and who has served as an inspiration to other food professionals."

In a statement, Humm said he was "thrilled, humbled and ready to honor the award and the foundation by working hard and getting better."

"The teams at Eleven Madison Park and the NoMad work tirelessly and inspire me every day,” Humm added. “This award is theirs as well."

Chef Anthony, of Gramercy Tavern, said winning the James Beard award "energized our whole team."

"I feel flattered to be recognized by my peers," Anthony added, "and so happy that the hard work of our whole restaurant team was acknowledged in such a meaningful way."
