BROOKLYN — A Cypress Hills mom and her neighbor have been arrested after the woman's 2-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets wearing nothing but a diaper, police said.
Lady Rosales, 30, the mom, and Hugo Luna, 27, were busted Monday after the baby was discovered by a livery cab driver along Ridgewood and Euclid avenues about 2:10 a.m., police said.
They were charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said.
Emilio Casso, the driver, spotted the baby in front of a bodega.
"We were coming through here, then we saw the baby on the corner by itself," Casso told WABC/Channel 7 News. "Then, one guy stopped, the other guy stopped, the other guy stopped. Three guys stopped at the same time here, because we never saw something like that before."
Cops responded and searched the neighborhood until they found the girl's home half a block away. There police found a neighbor who recognized the baby and her mother, WABC reported.
The baby was taken to Brookdale University Hospital for observation, police said.
Police said Rosales had asked Luna to babysit while she went out with her boyfriend. Some time later, the baby walked down the stairs and out to the street, according to WABC.
It was unclear how long the baby was missing.
Baby Jagmohan, the neighbor who recognized the child, defended the mother.
"She's a good person, you know. She's a good mother. She takes care. She's a single mother. She takes care of her kid," Jagmohan said, according to the news site.
