UPPER WEST SIDE — Models may not eat during Fashion Week, but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to starve.
A slew of Upper West Side restaurants are offering discounts to lure fashionistas off the runways and into eateries near Lincoln Center, where Fashion Week runs from Feb. 9-16.
But the promotion isn't just for industry insiders. The general public can partake too.
The "Fashion Plate Prix Fixe" promotion, organized by the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District, is meant to help restaurants capitalize on Fashion Week, which pumped close to $21 million into the local economy in February 2011, according to a study by Fordham University business students.
Now in its third season, the list of restaurants participating in Fashion Plate Prix Fixe is longer than ever. Similar to Restaurant Week, prices range from a $10.99 three-course prix fixe lunch at Lansky's deli on Columbus Avenue and West 71st Street to a $45 three-course prix fixe dinner at Gastroarte on West 69th Street and Broadway.
Some are embracing the fashion theme wholeheartedly. At Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola on the fifth floor of the Time Warner Center, diners can sip specialty cocktails with names like the Fashionberry and Skinny & Spicy ($10 each or two for $15). Mention Fashion Week to get $10 off the cover price at the 9:30 p.m. or 10 p.m. jazz set at Dizzy’s, which is part of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Other restaurants participating in Fashion Plate Prix Fixe are: A Voce, Atlantic Grill, Bar Boulud, Bouchon Bakery, Boulud Sud, Cafe Fiorello, Ed's Chowder House at the Empire Hotel, Gabriel's Bar & Restaurant, Il Violino, Jalapeno, La Boite en Bois, The Leopard at Des Artistes, Lincoln Ristorante, Luce Restaurant & Enoteca, Nanoosh, Nick and Tony's Cafe, Nougatine at Jean Georges, Porter House New York, Rosa Mexicano, Sapphire Indian Cuisine, Shun Lee West, and Telepan.
There's also a list of restaurants catering to behind-the-scenes Fashion Week workers with quick, cheap meals at 10 percent off.
Casual diners and sandwich shops are participating in the "Crew Cuts" 10 percent discounts for Fashion Week workers. Because the event actually takes weeks to set up and dismantle, the discount deal for workers started Jan. 21 and runs through Feb. 24.
To get the discount, employees must show Fashion Week credentials or a badge called a "blue card," which is only distributed backstage.
Restaurants participating in Crew Cuts include: Alan's Market Place, Blossom Du Jour, Bomboloni, Breadsoul Café, Choco Bolo, The Flame Restaurant, Francesco's Pizzeria & Restaurant, Gourmet Garage, Indie Food & Wine (inside the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center), Jamba Juice, Justino's Pizzeria, Lincoln Café, Melissa’s Gourmet Deli, Ocean Dragon, Old John's Luncheonette, Olympic Flame Diner, P.J. Clarke's at Lincoln Square, 63 Bites (at the West Side YMCA), Soutine Bakery, Tasti D Lite, and ’wichcraft.
Some of participating restaurants are quite a hike from the Lincoln Center area, as far away as West 57th Street and 10th Avenue.
