QUEENS — A broken rail at the Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street subway station in Jackson Heights just before 4 p.m. Monday was diverting Manhattan-bound R and M trains onto the express tracks, MTA officials said.

The problem at the Queens transit hub occurred shortly before the evening rush and left many residents scrambling for alternative routes.

The MTA did not immediately have information about the cause.

The trains resumed normal service just before 5 p.m.
