OPENINGS:

The land of $1 slices just got a nearly-$10 hot dog: Japadog, which opened Jan. 5 at 30 St. Mark's Place, offers a bevy of luxuriously topped dogs, including the $9.86 "Kobe." The Kobe beef dog comes slathered in tobiko caviar, special miso sauce and wasabi mayo. The St. Mark's location is the first American outpost for Japadog, a Canadian company founded by a Japanese couple seven years ago.

Bobwhite Lunch & Supper Counter is now open at 94 Avenue C, offering a seasonal menu of southern food from chef Amanda Beame. The menu centers on fried or grilled chicken suppers, served with salad and a biscuit. Bobwhite also serves hot and cold sandwiches.

Pudding is on the menu at Puddin', a new dessert shop that opened Jan. 6 at 102 St. Mark's Place. Twenty-three-year-old chef Clio Goodman serves up eight varieties of pudding, plus parfaits, cakes and pies.

Home Espresso Bar is now open at 250 Broome St., Bowery Boogie reported. The neighborhood joint serves Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee, along with soups, salads and sandwiches, according to its website.

Funini, a panini shop, has opened in the former Ludlow Nail Spa space at 143 Ludlow St., Bowery Boogie reported. The small spot offers meat and vegetarian options for $9 or less.

CLOSINGS:

Little Giant, the American cafe at 85 Orchard St., has closed. The owners told Grub Street that another restaurant is coming in to take over the corner spot.

Autumn Skateshop, 436 E. 9th St., was forced to shut its doors, EV Grieve reported.

Polonia, the Polish diner that anchored 110 First Ave. for more than 20 years, closed just before New Year's.  The owners were forced to shut down the popular pierogi spot after the landlord nearly tripled the rent, the New York Times reported.
