Giants, Jets Move Closer to Playoffs With Wins

MANHATTAN — Playoffs?!

The Jets and Giants both inched closer to securing spots in the postseason with victories Sunday, including a come-from-behind effort by Big Blue and a blowout win by Gang Green.

The Jets (8-5) upended the Kansas City Chiefs at home, 37-10, for their third straight win, putting them in prime position to claim a wildcard playoff spot.

The Giants (7-6) rallied by scoring two late touchdowns to beat division rival Dallas 37-34 on the road, giving them the inside track on reaching the postseason.

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez threw for two touchdowns and ran for another pair, while running back Shonn Green got a season-high 129 yards on the ground.

The Giants, behind quarterback Eli Manning’s 400 passing yards, ended their four-game skid by blocking a field goal in the closing seconds that would have sent the game into overtime.

Manning led two touchdown drives in the final 3:14 of the game to lock them in a tie with the Cowboys for the NFC East division lead.

The Jets benefitted from losses by the Raiders, Titans and Bengals Sunday to claim a one-game lead in the wildcard race, while the Giants now control their own playoff destiny, with a New Year’s Day matchup with Dallas to finish the regular season.
