Lady Gaga Unleashes Holiday Spectacle At Barneys

By Amy Zimmer | November 22, 2011 5:28pm

MANHATTAN — Lady Gaga's Little Monsters were out in full force at midnight Tuesday to witness the pop star's launch of her holiday collaboration with Barneys.

The mega-star arrived on the Upper East Side decked out in pearls and Chanel, but unlike other neighborhood denizens, these iconic pieces were amped up in true Gaga style: huge strands over a giant pouf of a skirt.

Like her outfit, "Gaga's Workshop" is bringing the whimsical and weird to the windows of the luxury retailer's 660 Madison Ave. flagship store, with a floor full of limited-edition items that sprung forth from her imagination.

"The idea of creating a workshop was a way to have people have an opportunity to get a little piece of something of Lady Gaga," Dennis Freedman, creative director of Barneys, said in a video posted on the luxury retailer's website.

A special entrance tricked out with a giant monster-like Lady Gaga on East 60th Street whisks shoppers up to the fifth floor where all 5,500 square feet of the men’s section have been taken over with eight elaborately designed stations, including a toy shop, library, gallery and a jewelry shop created out of "an oversized Lady Gaga-turned-spider and a boudoir in the shape of a giant wig."

Little Monsters with deep pockets could shell out $1,305 for a gold "shards of glass" necklace, $625 for a motorcycle jacket or snap up lace sunglasses for $295. For those with smaller budgets, there's "monster" red lipstick for $25, a Gaga Nutcracker cookie for $18 and a candy bow lollipop for $25.

Barneys will donate 25 percent of sales from all items featured in Gaga’s Workshop, through Jan. 2, to the Born This Way Foundation, recently founded by Lady Gaga and her mother to fight bullying.
