MANHATTAN — Move over Santa. Lady Gaga will be taking over the Christmas display windows of Barney's Madison Avenue store this holiday season.

Gaga's Workshop, as the pop sensation's project is called, will place Lady Gaga's interpretation of a traditional elf workshop inside Barneys' highly coveted store windows — as well as the fifth floor of the Men's Store — for the holiday season, Barneys officials announced on Monday.

The fashion icon's edgy rep for fashion — which includes a dress made out of raw red meat and a bow made out of hair — will undoubtedly lead to a window that's slightly more avant garde than the average Santa suit. The store released an image promoting the initiative with a cartoon version of Gaga in a sparkly, skin-tight red suit.

The image will be used on holiday shopping bags and packaging, the store said.

The store didn't say whether Gaga will come to Barney's in person to arrange or unveil her windows — or whether she'll let her "little monsters" sit on her lap to say what they want for Christmas.

Under the creative direction of Nicola Formichetti, Barneys is working closely with Gaga on designing an array of exclusive small gifts available for a limited time at Gaga's Workshop at the flagship store near East 61st Street and at its other locations. Barney's will donate 25 percent of sales from these items to a charity of the singer's choice.

“Partnering with her in this unprecedented collaborative way to create the largest and most all-encompassing holiday theme that Barneys has ever mounted is a thrill," Mark Lee, Barneys New York CEO, said in a statement. "As a New York City landmark, we wanted to celebrate Lady Gaga as a fellow New Yorker and amazing talent."

Simon Doonan, who had been Barneys' creative director, dressing up its famous window display since 1986, became the company's "creative ambassador-at-large" in January.
