McDonald's Beating Victim Released From Hospital

By Andrea Swalec | October 24, 2011 1:39pm

MANHATTAN — The Queens woman who was bludgeoned by an employee at a Greenwich Village McDonald's earlier this month after jumping the counter has been released from the hospital, but doesn't remember the full attack, her father said Monday.

Denise Darbeau, 24, was released from the hospital last week after receiving 20 staples in her head following an Oct. 13 attack at the West 3rd Street McDonald's, according to her father Gerald Darbeau.

Darbeau's skull was fractured on the left side as a result of the brutal attack, which was caught on cellphone video. The elder Darbeau said his daughter is awake, but has not spoken in detail about the incident, except to say she has little memory of what happened.

The attack occurred Oct. 13 at the 136 W. 3rd St. restaurant.

"At this point it's a little too early to tell if there's been any permanent damage," said Gerald Darbeau, 64, a retired truck driver.

"The main concern at this point is her having seizures. There are some complications that could happen down the line," he added.

Fast food cook Rayon McIntosh, 31, was arrested and charged with assault and weapons possession for allegedly beating Darbeau and her friend with a metal grill cleaner after they vaulted the counter during a fight over their order. Darbeau and friend Rachel Edwards, 24, were charged with misdemeanor trespass.

McIntosh said in a jailhouse interview with the New York Daily News on Friday that he had to defend himself against "aggressive people."

McDonald's cashier Michael Joseph, 18, said in a Manhattan criminal court hearing Oct. 18 that Denise Darbeau and Edwards verbally abused McDonald's workers, which sparked the attack.

McIntosh and Edwards are due back in court in December, while Darbeau is due back in court next month.
