UPPER WEST SIDE — Confused about gifted and talented programs? Want to know how to apply for elementary schools?

At Saturday's elementary school fair, parents can get questions answered about elementary options in District 3, which runs from West 59th Street to West 122nd Street. Principals, teachers, and parents leaders from 21 public elementary schools in will be at the fair, at P.S. 165, 234 W. 109th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"If you have any questions about where your kid is going to go to school in District 3, you want to be there," said Michelle Ciulla-Lipkin, co-president of the District 3 President's Council, which is sponsoring the fair.

Geared toward parents of kids born in 2007 who will be starting kindergarten next year, the fair is also open to anyone who wants to learn more about District 3 elementary schools.

Information on how to apply to schools, gifted and talented programs and bilingual programs will be presented. Parents can also learn more details about changes at seven District 3 schools that were awarded federal grants last year to enhance their curricula.

Each school that won the grant money now has a special focus and is working with outside organizations. For example, P.S. 191 is now called the Museum Magnet school, and will be partnering with the New York Historical Society. Other recipients of the federal funding are: P.S. 185, P.S. 208, P.S. 242, M.S. 421 (West Prep Academy), P.S. 145 and P.S. 87.

Upper West Side elementary schools are among the most sought-after in the city, with P.S. 334, also called the Anderson School, topping a recent ranking of elementary schools, and P.S. 87 consistently drawing large numbers of applicants.
